House Extension

A young family of 5, 2 adults and 3 kids needed to extend their existing 3 bedroom home. Understanding the development of a family and the different spatial needs that are required over time was the driver to this renovation. In the early years children need close supervision by parents and so open plan is the preferred mode but as they become teenagers and more privacy is required where they can entertain friends out of the guise of the parent. As children stay at home longer the demands on the family home only grow and this is where our experience and careful re-planning and extending on where required was done. We gave the parents a ground floor retreat, wine store and casual living space where the family could come together. The kids were given an additional playroom/hangout space. More storage and rationalisation of the laundry, and a pool and spa were also completed to ensure all facilities were integrated in a way that seamlessly extended the home while articulating from the masonry language of the house.
