New family home in Hawthorn

Set on a deep leafy block in Hawthorn, flexibility of use together with response to orientation and external spaces were the key drivers in this project. How do you design for a young family that needs to be in close proximity to each other now but in 5-10 years have privacy so that teenagers can have friends over without invading the privacy of the parents? The solution was to create pop-outs that extend the living spaces into the garden, so that each program element had a unique outlook as well as the flexibility to separate when needed.
