Unrolling of complex form for the construction of large scale constructions using soft materials
Industry linked research
Current unrolling processes available in architecture and fashion design are limited. In architecture the unrolling ignores material tolerances and seam locations. In fashion the digital interfaces are based on fixed models of the human form. The gap in knowledge lies in developing a system that allows for unrolling of complex form that can incorporate seam locations, scale of form and material tolerances. An industry partner that works with large scale animatronics is working with us to automate the complex and labour intensive processes where they can simulate the outputs digitally and adjust in real time.
